Sylvia Rivera, Mother of Lost Children, was named Ray Rivera at birth. At ten years old he was sent away from home and became a sex worker. As an adult, whether dressed as Ray or as Sylvia, he and Marsha P. Johnson, together, were committed to full inclusion for all people in gay liberation. They may have been difficult people, troublesome people, but people with enormous hearts and clarity of sight, who demanded respect and refused to give in.
